Nor-witch vs Liverpool

Oh thank Dog that is over and we can back to the football and I can finally say “And now from Norwich, it’s the game (or quiz) of the week” I thought I would take “just a minute” to confuse any overseas readers and also pay tribute to the recently departed Nicholas Parsons who for many years hosted the quiz show “Sale of the Century” and opened the show each week with those words

There are some other notable personalities who hail from Norwich including Alan Partridge (aha), Delia Smith, Stephen Fry, Myleene Klass, Ed Balls and Olivia Colman . I looked for a suitable picture to illustrate these celebrities and channeling my inner Greg I came across this one.

Norwich City fans still sing the oldest known football song “On the ball” which was written in 1890 and goes like this.

Kick off, throw in, have a little scrimmage,Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo, win or die;
On the ball City, never mind the danger, Steady on, now’s your chance, Hurrah! We’ve scored a goal, City! City! City!

Unfortunately, these days they don’t often get to the last line of the song before they concede a goal but the beauty of this song is you can sing it to any tune and it doesn’t even matter whether you know all or indeed any of the words, it still sounds the same.

If you were paying attention to my previous match threads you will remember Norwich play in yellow and are called the canaries after the birds brought over by Flemish travellers known as the “strangers” I don’t think the strangers were much liked though because why else would they have come up with the saying “don’t be a stranger”.

I bet Daniel Farke was popular at school because all his friends could shout down the corridor Farke! Farke! at the top of their voices (such fun).

Norwich have had a mini revival of sorts just lately with a couple of wins and a draw in their last four matches but this will hopefully come to an end on Saturday when they come up against a Liverpool side also on a bit of a run of late. Team: Alisson, TAA, Gomez, VVD, Robbo, Fab, Hendo, Gini, Firmino, Salah Mane. Nice to have Mane back and I hope to see Mini and Keita have a run out too at some stage.

This game is traditionally high scoring and I have gone for a 0-3 scoreline in the prediction League ……or have I ?
