Inter Milan v Liverpool
I apologise in advance if I get carried away in this article but I have been drinking from Granddad’s glass again… Anyway, Inter Milan it is tonight and despite a natural nervousness I do think we should be too strong for them, over the two legs.
Historically, we have met twice in the past in the European Cup. In 1965 they beat us over two legs with Liverpool winning 3-1 at home followed by a 3-0 loss away in very controversial circumstances, with a host of decisions favouring the Italians. I can remember some years later, Shankly still going on about how the Ref cost us that match and possibly the European Cup, with others muttering darkly about match fixing. The next time we met them was in 2007 when we won both legs and, on the basis of recent history and current form, that is what we should be looking for this time too, especially with a full strength squad and the addition of Diaz .
