I see people are claiming Liverpool were lucky to come away with a win, amid suggestions that we were dominated for spells. There is some truth in that, but we still had the greater possession away from home, kept them down to one shot, early on, that hit the bar and then clinically scored from the two shots we had on target. So, all in all, a good result at the halfway mark, with the home leg still to come.

Alisson – Not much for him to do in the match. but did everything he needed to, didn’t make any mistakes and sensibly hoofed the ball when that was the best option.

TAA – Was caught out a couple of times and allowed a couple of crosses into the box, but no major dramas.

Konate – One of the stars of the show. Looked very assured with probably his best game for us and most importantly got out of Salah’s way when it mattered

VVD – Again the VVD we have become used to seeing, though he did throw in a dodgy pass to keep the moaners happy.

Robbo – Usual high standard both defensively and in attack with the cross for Firmino’s goal

Fab – Usual good defensive work and a bit surprised he was subbed, though it turned out well in the end as Hendo (along with Keita and Diaz) upped the tempo and provided the drive that took control of the game.

Thiago – As usual looked classy and unhurried most of the time, but was caught on the ball a couple of times

Elliott – He’s 18 and will gain from such an experience, especially as we came out with a win. Oh, and he kindly made way for Keita to add some drive.

Mane – Looked lively at the start, but his best move was to make way for the very tidy and lively Diaz.😁

Jota – Only bad thing is he turned his ankle and had to be replaced with Firmino, who started slowly but then provided the breakthrough goal.

Salah – A quiet game by his standards, where none of his tricks quite came off, but then he gets the goal that puts the cherry on the top

Klopp – He rightly got the plaudits for his substitutions which added some energy and urgency, but ironically, the most telling substitution might well have been the one forced on him, when Jota went off at half time
