Watford v Liverpool

Our attention now turns to Watford and the chance to create another piece of history by beating them and setting a new record of 19 wins on the trot. This would beat the record of 18 straight wins we currently jointly hold with Man City and I hate sharing.

People have heard of the term Watford Gap and some say it is a flat piece of land North of London that traditionally marks the dividing line between civilisation and savagery. However, Liverpool fans all know that the Watford Gap is in fact now 18 places and 55 points……….and growing.

When I first used a picture of an attractive woman in an earlier match thread I said I would only do so again if it was absolutely essential to the story. So of course, I couldn’t ignore the fact that we are playing Watford in the very same week in which Maria Sharapova announced her retirement from tennis. I am sure many of you are aware of the links she has with Watford insofar as it is rumoured that she might well have passed through, or quite close to Watford on one of her many visits to London for the Wimbledon Championships. I know too that some of will especially appreciate the picture as you are strong supporters of women’s sport in general, but women’s tennis in particular;-)

Watford are one off the bottom of the EPL on 24 points a comfortable 6 points ahead of Norwich but only 3 points off the 16th placed team and relegation safety and so they will be fighting for every point. We cannot afford another lacklustre performance like we showed against West ‘aaaaam especially in the first half and overall we were lucky to come out with a narrow 3-2 win.

Watford have not won a match for six games and even lost to Tranmere in the Cup. They have won just 3 games at home all season losing 5 and drawing 5. They have an even worse record away from Vicarage Road winning just 2 drawing 4 and losing 8. On paper we should notch up another comfortable win en route to the title but as I have said before the game is rarely played on paper……Just as well then that on grass we have also shown ourselves to be much better than Watford and despite Elton’s request “don’t go breaking my heart” I think we probably will. The trouble is though once you get a song in your head you can’t get it out I bet you are already humming away to yourselves and will be all morning…….. Other Elton John song references in your posts whilst not obligatory will be appreciated.

I don’t have any strong feelings about Watford either way really though i thank them for giving us John Barnes who I rate as the best Liverpool player ever, though it is difficult to compare players across the years, Nevertheless, in my eyes he was even better than his contemporaries Hansen, Souness, Rush and even the mighty Dalglish.

Team: Alisson, TAA, Gomez, VVD, Robbo, Fab, Gini. Ox, Mane, Firmino, Salah. I am guessing that Klopp will not start Keita as unusually he took him off at half time against West ‘aaaaam. Indeed it will be interesting to see if he even brings him on in the second half.
