Positive signs

Our prematch fears turned out to be unfounded then, as we swept a poor Galatasaray aside with minimal fuss and between the missed penalty and raft of sitters we missed, we could easily have scored twice as many.

First half we were dominant but frustratingly only one up at the break, after a terrible penalty from Salah was saved but a couple of quick fire second half goals put the tie to bed, with Salah’s probably the pick of the bunch as he rolled back the years to make up for his penalty miss.

Szoboszlai continued his outstanding form and I thought Kerkez arguably had his best game so far for us. It was good to see Ekitike back amongst the goals and another assist for Wirtz, with a clever backheel for Salah’s goal.

I’m not going to get too excited just yet however. Galatasaray were absolutely dire and never laid a glove on us all night. You can only beat what’s in front of you however and we did that comfortably. The acid test will be PSG in the next round.

Brighton up next then in Saturday’s early kickoff so that will give us an indicator of whether we’re finding a bit of form, or if last night’s performance was more down to how appalling Galatasaray were. Walk on!
