Wolves vs Liverpool

Some people have said that in the past my match articles have had a tendency to sometimes stray very slightly away from football. I thought this time I would make a special effort to ensure that my article for the Wolves match is completely on point. So I found this 1938 picture of a polisman saying vamoose to a goose running loose on the pitch at Molineux. Though, looking at the pitch, perhaps it was just a an early groundshare scheme with the local goose farmer or potato grower. I can just imagine today’s footballers trying to play on that pitch in their little pink slippers. If you look carefully too I am pretty sure you can just make out John in the crowd.

As far as making detailed comparisons with previous results between Liverpool and wolves I just cannot see the point. As Klopp says nothing that has gone before has any bearing on the current game. Wolves have steadied the ship after a dodgy spell and won’t be easy opponents and it remains to be seen if we can reverse our recent league form and do what we did against Leipzig.

Anyway, that’s enough detailed tactical analysis 😉 The most important point is that we have two actual CBs which releases Fab who, despite Henderson’s ongoing absence, now provides us with a properly functioning midfield. The only question still to be properly answered is whether we are defensively strong enough with Kayak and Phillips. It seems too that Firmino is unlikely to be available after his “little knock” as he hasn’t yet returned to training so Jota will get another start. For Wolves I hadn’t realised Jimenez is still out with his fractured skull which is surprising and a little concerning .

Team: Alisson, TAA, Phillips, Kayak, Robbo, Fab, Gini, Thiago, Mane, Jota, Salah.
