Our Best Players in Order

Right just a short filler article. The following is a list of our players in the order I think they contribute the most to our success:

Henderson: Surprise choice perhaps but I think he is the player we miss the most when not playing. He links defence and attack both protecting and pushing forward when needed. There is an argument about whether he has always been this good or whether he has developed in the last two seasons in particular. I don’t know but he has become a fantastic Captain and leader.

Alisson: Another player who though rated very highly is still not always fully appreciated in my mind and it is only when he is not playing you can fully appreciate him. He is an outstanding goalkeeper and a brilliant sweeper and distributor of the ball. Had he been in goal against Atletico we would still be in the CL in my opinion (and that is the only opinion that really counts). That is the difference great players can make when it really matters

Van Dijk: Transformed our defence, along with Alisson and a colossus of a man . Probably not been quite at his imperious best lately but overall a major reason why we are now winning things.

Salah: Marmite this one. I know he’s far from perfect but if he could pass he’d be the best player ever. What he has though is lightening speed and trickery that pushes teams back and creates spaces for others as well as the ability to score shed loads. Works for us as our main attacking threat and defensively too as they dare not risk attacking us too much and leaving any gaps.

Mane: Again like Salah his pace and threat pushes the opposition back and he can score goals others can’t with his skill and athleticism. I think he is the closest I have seen to a young John Barnes and there is no finer compliment.

Firmino: Another underrated player with a lovely touch and great vision who links up the forward play. If he was a more ruthless and prolific scorer he would be untouchable as it is he is still an outstanding talent.

TAA: Will be higher up in many people’s list but the differences are small. He is still very young and will no doubt surpass some of those above as his career proceeds. Defensively sometimes caught out but his free kicks and crosses are sublime and virtually undefendable.

Robbo: I can think of one person who will have him higher on their list;-) He has been superb for us and links brilliantly with Mane. Like TAA his crosses are outstanding. Gets in some really good offensive positions but doesn’t always finish as well as he might. If he could sometimes beat his man he would be on another level but quite rightly he leaves the showing off to Mane

Gini: I feel guilty placing him this far down as he offers so much and plays unselfishly for the team and is often overlooked. The margins are so small too but he is a versatile player who does all the dirty work well and can be an attacking threat too when allowed off the leash.

Fab: I have to admit I am not as mad about Fab as some. He took time to settle in and I feel his form can be up and down a bit and he can look a bit slow as the game goes on . That said at his best he provides an excellent shield for the back four and his tackling is excellent.

Gomez: Well someone has to be last and in the team we have it is no disgrace especially for a young player with room for improvement and playing with someone who can teach him. Gets caught out sometimes and backs off too much sometimes but has great recovery speed and time on his side.

Obviously my order is correct but your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to rip it to shreds……………;-)
