After beating Leicester last time out in a pulsating cup tie we now return to the league to face, well ……Leicester, again.

Leicester are suffering from a lot of injuries (yes, I am looking at you Morton) and really struggled against City where it ended 6-3. They are currently in the middle of a tough run of fixtures and could well find themselves on the wrong end of another spanking against a well rested and almost full strength Liverpool. Team: Alisson, TAA, Matip, VVD, Tsimikas, Fab, Hendo, Thiago, Mane, Jota, Salah. We now have a few more midfield options too with Keita, Ox, Millie and Jones all in contention for a starting place as well as Firmino backing up the front line.

I see that Klopp and other managers again are calling for five substitutions in the light of covid. Whilst I think the rules should be consistent across European football, I do think it favours the big clubs and we shouldn’t forget that includes Liverpool. The bigger the club and the more resources they have, the bigger their advantage. That said, I think we are at a crossroads with covid and already there is a real danger that matches and teams will have results determined more by their ability to field a proper team than their ability. In addition, we have AFCON and other international commitments encroaching on the Winter break. Interesting times indeed….
