Burnley 0-1 Liverpool: A war of attrition

Ok I write this with the caveat that I watched the game via video link to Canada, with a bandit who had just woken up and had a general nightmare with the set up first half so sorry if I miss anything. Not the most action filled game to discuss either so just a quick filler article.

Hands up who would have taken a ground out 1-0 win before kickoff? ✋I know I would and so it transpired, the usual ugly slugfest game with Burnley, not helped with the swirling wind around the stadium. The kind of game where you have to forget about trying to play slick, attacking football and just battle your way to victory and once again, our boys proved their mettle and did just a that.

Let’s face it, this was no classic to be watched back again, although to be fair to Burnley, they didn’t just completely park the bus and created three or four really decent chances, which with better finishing might have had us in trouble. Allison we saw the good and bad of. Some brilliant one v one interventions and some mental stuff with the ball at his feet 30 yards outside his goal.

Fabinho (McMOTM) once again popping up with an important goal. In games like these your forward players are often smothered and you need your DM or CB to chip in with a goal and the more you saw it, he actually did really well to sort his feet out and finish the rebound the way he did. I immediately thought it showed his speed of thought, something imperative for elite players in the modern game and something that can’t be taught.

Good to see Keita get 90 minutes under his belt, even if he was somewhat underwhelming today but another returning player and our squad is looking very strong at the minute.

Inter next then in what promises to be a much more entertaining game. They’re no mugs the Italian champions and we’ll have to be at our best but if we turn up, we should have too much for them. I have a feeling we’re about to embark on one of our long winning runs, just at the right time of the season. The quadruple is still on!! Walk on!!
