Two fingers to 2020

What a year that’s been. It started with such promise! We were top of the league and had already built up a 13 point lead by this stage last season, Anfield was buzzing and choruses of ‘We’re gonna win the league’ were echoing down from the Kop with every passing home game. It seemed to be too good to be true, as when do LFC ever do it the easy way? Never would be the answer but easy it seemed, as we looked on course to romp to our first title in 30 years. That was, of course, until whispers started coming out of China about a new virus. Those whispers would soon become a deafening roar.

It had looked like nothing could stop us claiming our first Premier League title and then oh look, a global pandemic the like of which hasn’t been seen in a century, forces the season to be suspended and with it, out came the “null and void” brigade in full force.

We went into lockdown, months passed with no football and the question lingering over us… Could they really void the season? This season of all seasons? God only knows what it must have felt like for the players. Thankfully it didn’t happen and finally we belatedly got our hands on that first Premier League title.

In a year where we’ve seen lockdowns, the Black Lives Matter movement sweep across the western world, Brexit, the US in political turmoil and growing tensions with Russia and China, people have rarely felt so divided.

Out of the smouldering wreckage of 2020 however, we at 4KK are approaching our first anniversary and it gives me great pleasure knowing that despite the challenges of the year and the divided nature of the world at the moment, we managed to keep a small community of old friends together and over the course of the year, welcome a number of new friends. I thank you all for helping provide me with a little escapism from 2020 and I hope we have provided that for others as well.

As the year draws to a close then and the vaccine beginning to be rolled out, perhaps the first glimpse of that golden sky is starting to break through at the end of the storm and if nothing else we’ll always have LFC champions 2020.

That aside however, bollocks to 2020. Let’s all stick two fingers up to it and welcome 2021 with some sense of optimism. It’s gotta be better right? Right??

From us here at 4K wishing you all a very happy new year. Walk on!
