Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

It is always nice to meet up with ex Liverpool managers especially as it always ends with another three points towards our title;-) I do feel a bit sorry for Roy though as he was manager during a very depressingly low point in Liverpool’s recent history but nothing can excuse his decision to buy Konchesky. His mum would have been a much better buy.

Both teams played hard matches in midweek. Palace played nearly half of the second half against West ‘aaam with only 10 men after Christian Benteke was sent off but they did manage to hang on for a 1 -1 draw. This does though mean Benteke will miss the game against his former club Liverpool just as he was beginning to find a bit of form. Liverpool as we know had a tough outing against Spurs but had the extra impetus of winning the game with a late strike from Firmino who was the official BBC MOTM. At least we can rely on an unbiased decision from the BBC. I think that Liverpool are more used to playing two games a week and I think this extra resilience could well be an important factor on Saturday.

I had a quick look at our head to head results and given our relative levels of success it’s not surprising to find that we have won 31 drawn 11 and lost just 14. Clearly, we will be favourites and they should be more worried about us than we should be about them but they have some good individual players such as Townsend and Zaha who on their day could cause us problems. We cannot take the game lightly and as with Spurs will need to be aware of their threat on the break. We need to get the first goal again but also the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and even seventh.

I am hoping Matip will be fit to return to the starting line up and if he is I expect the starting team to be : Alisson, TAA, Fab, Matip, McMOTM, Hendo, Gini, Jones, Mane, Firmino, Salah. With Ox and Keita back in training I am hoping second half we can give Hendo and Jones a well deserved break, the other good news is that Thiago is back in solo training and will hopefully resume team training next week with a return as a new signing in January. Let’s hope he’s not our only one though 😉
