Crystal Palace v Liverpool

If we are to put some pressure on City and distance ourselves from Chelsea and the chasing pack this is the type of match we need to win. This is the last of the League games we will be without the services of Mane, Salah and , to a much lesser extent, Keita, though he was looking good in some games before he went to the AFCON. If we can keep on City’s coat tails there is no reason why with those players back and with Thiago and Elliot returning from injury we can’t go on a really good winning run to the end of the season and, as we are still in all competitions, who knows what we might end up winning?

Crystal Palace will be no push over. Viera has done well with them and introduced a more attacking style without completely losing the defensive side of their game. They sit mid table, though closer to the relegation zone than they would like. Wilfried Zaha and Cheikhou Kouyate are still involved in the Africa Cup of Nations, while James McArthur and James Tomkins remain out with injuries, though they do have Gallagher. They also have good reason to beat us after last season’s thrashing and they didn’t have to play a difficult cup tie on Thursday evening, so will be well rested. Unlike the grand old Duke of York, we could be in for a sweaty time of it this afternoon.

Team: Alisson, TAA, Konate, VVD, Robbo, Fab ,Henderson, Jones Firmino, Jota, Minamino. I am assuming Matip will miss out through injury and am not sure about Hendo but if he is out too then than either Milner or the Ox will step in. I am wondering too whether this afternoon might see the long awaited and welcome return of young Harvey Elliot who has been back in first team training this week and might be in line for a return to the bench. I wouldn’t want to see him rushed back but it is a big boost to know he is once more knocking on the door.
