A win is a win

We’re very much a Jekyll and Hyde team at the moment, which is understandable given how early it is on the season, with a new boss. We were brilliant against Atletico, then dismal against Fulham. I missed the Spurs game but the fan reaction was generally very positive. Sunday’s game against Bournemouth was a tough watch for both sets of fans, as we played out a 1-0 win on Iraola’s return to the south coast, that was competitive but low on quality.

Isak continued his fine scoring form so far this season, showing a proper CF’s instincts to be in the right place as the ball broke to him and he was never going to miss but there was an element of good fortune about it but I’m sure he won’t care. Isak has now already scored more PL goals than he did last season and looks much fitter and sharper than at any point last season. Keeping him fit is a must though.

Gakpo continued his fine start to the season but elsewhere in our attack, Barcola was completely anonymous and Wirtz was appalling in the first half, better in the second but still has to deliver a lot more to come close to justifying his reputation, never mind his price tag. He looks a player low on confidence just now, hopefully a few weeks with Klopp will help with that. After all, there’s nobody better to advise him on what he has to do to be a success at LFC.

The one big positive in a we look a much more assured defensive unit since big Ronald has been playing RB. Big Jezza Jacket continues to impress and I thought Kerkez was much better on Sunday. We still needed Alisson to be in top form to hold onto our lead though but that’s what you buy a world class keeper for – to win games you should’ve drawn and draw games you should’ve lost.

It was a tough watch then but a win is a win and it was a big three points for the lads. Also for the fans, nothing worse than going into the tedium of an international break, on the back of a loss.

I still have no real idea what my expectations for this season are. I feel like if that front four could click, they’d be fearsome but if or when that’s going to happen, I have no idea. One thing’s for sure, this season is going to be a journey of ups and downs. Walk on!
