Liverpool v Southampton

I don’t know what it is but whenever I see the Southampton manager’s name Ralph Hasenhüttl I think of Steve Martin as Dr Hfuhruhurr in the film “the man with two brains” . I have just spent half an hour, when I should have been writing this, watching clips from the film, but it was worth it 😉

I think Klopp will start with his strongest team and hope to swap in some players later in the game. As far as I can tell, the following players are still injured and unavailable (in reverse order of their likely return dates) Elliot, Gomez, Firmino, Jones, and Keita. Team: Alisson, TAA, Matip, VVD, Robbo, Fab, Hendo, Thiago, Mane, Jota, Salah. It is possible though that Klopp might start with Ox or Milner in place of Thiago.

With the impending return of Jones and Keita, we should soon have the luxury of rotating the midfield a bit more. It is ironic that ,at the start of the season, our midfield looked to be pretty well covered especially with the emergence of Elliot, but has been our main area of concern Hopefully, that will soon be over as players return and with Morton now stepping up too. The ability to rotate will allow the squad to develop, as I think would have happened last year if we hadn’t been so severely affected by injuries. We now seem to have good cover defensively and, as I have already said, in midfield too. Upfront though, I would still like to see a better backup than either Mini or Origi, but longer term that might well be Gordon. I know Origi offers us something different, but I have never been a fan of the so called Plan B, preferring to focus instead on developing and improving an already outstanding and flexible Plan A
