European Cup (Champions League) Final 2022 – Liverpool v Real Madrid

AN ARTICLE BY SUPERSUB

So, here we are (again). In the final of (what I still call) the European Cup (again). Playing against Real Madrid (again).  In Paris (again). Having won it 3 seasons previously (again).

I’m gonna try my very best not to ramble on too much here & keep it short(ish)..  It’s the final game of an absolutely AMAZING season & I’m certain that we wanna be gassing about all of that & not stuck reading some meandering nonsense from me.   Not that this site is known for meandering nonsense in any way at all.

So….This is exactly where this club belongs, at the top table of European football. There’s something very special about having those little gold stars on your shirt & we have 6 so far.

Soon to be 7.

We all know what happened in our two previous finals against this lot.  1981, Paris, a Barney Rubble blaster, that gave us our 3rd European cup in 5 seasons & Kjiv, 2018, where the bastards clobbered Mo & our GK.  The cheating shower of dirty c*nts.  It’s often said that revenge is a dish best eaten cold, well this is 4 years worth of cold.  It’s 1-1, this is the ‘decider’.   Bring it on.

I really detest RM.  They have great European heritage, for sure, but at what price…??  Ah, sod it, that’s a whole other story & you’ve all probably got your own reasons for any negative feelings you have for this lot & I’ll bet that they’ll all be perfectly valid.  But I wanna leave the club side of things aside just for the moment & focus on the supporters.

Paris in 1981 showed a stark contrast between the two sets of supporters. RM fans were hardly seen around the city all day whilst everywhere you went was bedecked in red & white. The party had arrived in Paris & it was wearing Liverpool colours. We looked different from them too, outside of the ‘which country sees the most sunshine’ side of things. When we did come across any RM fans, they were not only incredibly quiet in comparison (and, in general, older than us), but they were mainly dressed quite smartly really. Suits, overcoats, little white bowler hats etc, whilst we looked just like the rag-tag bunch of scallies that we were.  We didn’t care tho, coz we were the one’s having all the fun it seemed.

RM fans are different from us in other ways too. There’s the ‘Ultra Sur’ fans at RM, with notable links to right-wing political organisations and who, in the past, have been called out by the club itself, for displaying ‘Nazi’ symbols at matches.  Quite a few of them were spotted in Manchester recently making ‘Nazi salutes’ towards opposing supporters (as well as spitting at young kids on the way to the ground).  Disgusting people indeed & a million miles away from our own fan base.

This is an interesting read, for anyone who’s interested in the history of this sorta thing.

There’s far too much to choose from, when trying to write about this; The heroic efforts of the lads in 20/21 that enabled us to qualify for this season’s CL in the first place  (Nat Phillips & Rhys Williams et al…Thank you for your service). Ticket allocations for the final. The envy on the faces of city’s plastic supporters, who are desperate for their team to be crowned Champions of Europe one day. Injury worries. The (extremely high) standards that we’ve been setting which, in my opinion, are the best that we’ve ever had at this club etc etc etc.  But I guess that will all come out in the comments.

The important thing is that tonight, we play Real Madrid in a bid to become Champions of Europe for the SEVENTH time. Two clubs with a proper European heritage, on the biggest stage in European football.  There can only be one winner.  I’m not saying it will definitely be us (it will), but some of you might find this useful for Sunday, if you wanna see what 3 trophies look like close up.

As for team selection.  The strongest out of who’s available.  Tactics..?  Go out there & win the game.  If you’re in the penalty area & not sure what to do with the ball, Just stick it in the net & we can discuss the options later (nice one Bob).  What more d’ya want..?

There were some tired legs out there on Sunday, but the lads battled through & did what they needed to do, to give us any chance of winning the title. One more effort is needed now. One more game in 21/22 for the Mentality Monsters to show their strength.  I don’t care about anything to do with RM & their team/squad tbh, I’m just not interested in them. They’re a top team for sure, with great players, but so are we.  It’s what we bring tonight that counts for me, just like Shankly used to set up a Subbuteo table for pre-match tactical talks & just sweep the opposition off the table, saying to forget about them & let’s just talk about how much better than them we are. That’ll do for me.  As a wise man once said, “We are Liverpool & fook the rest”.

Whatever happens tonight tho, we’ve been given some wonderful memories to remember this season by & every single person connected to this club can hold their heads high with pride.  There’s no ‘passengers’ in this squad & every single one of them has been a hero this season.

And, as for Mr Klopp……If there’s still any ‘doubters’ out there, then all hope has gone for them, they’re lost causes & not worth concerning ourselves about.  We know that our players will give their everything out there & that’s all we can ask of them, nothing more.

Whatever happens tonight, this has been the most magical season for the club & it’s supporters & we’re bloody lucky that this is our football team.  Tonight is only another destination on route.

The journey is only just getting started.

As far as club football goes, it doesn’t really get any bigger than this.

We’ve already conquered all of Europe (6 times) and we’re never gonna stop.

Here’s one for the lads tonight.

Just like a team, that’s gonna win the European Cup (again)………
