Deja Vu
Our second trip to play Galatasaray ended the same as the first then – in defeat.
We actually had a bright start for once, pressing them high, forcing mistakes and Wirtz was guilty of missing a couple of good chances on his return to the starting lineup after injury and he was poor all game, although far from the only one.
Despite our bright start however, normal service quickly resumed as we conceded from the opposition’s first shot on goal AGAIN and after that we just looked clueless. Konate had an absolute nightmare and was very fortunate to see what would have been their second ruled out for offside after some absolute calamitous defending.
Salah was invisible, Ekitike struggled to get into the game and Mac Allister stank the place out again.
To be honest, I could pretty much just copy and paste every post match article this season. Once again, it was impossible to see what the plan was when we went behind. If we had one, they hid it well and we got what we deserved in the end. You’d like to think we’ll still have too much for them in the second leg at Anfield and we may well do but would anyone really be surprised by another frustrating draw at Anfield next week?
We couldn’t ask for a better game in between however, as we play a hapless Spurs side who are in absolute freefall this weekend. If that’s not a chance for a confidence boosting win, I don’t know what is. For me, the sooner this dismal season is over, the better. Walk on!
