Life Update
ARTICLE BY MATTY
Hey lads, it’s been a while. I’ve been watching the games still when I’ve had time, but just haven’t really been able to chat with you all that often. School’s still school, now I’m starting a graduate program in the fall. My dad got stage 2 prostate cancer, but recently had surgery to get rid of it so hopefully he’s out of danger for now. My mom is still stressed and losing her brain capacity a little more now. The long term effects from the stroke are becoming more apparent. My sister’s about the same as she usually is. I’ve met a young lady who’s out of my league and checks every box I could’ve ever possibly had, going slow and steady with her at the moment. She’s absolutely fantastic, been a real rock for me lately. Of course I’ve also been a rock for her, we both have busy lives and schedules but we make it work.
Liverpool’s been a nice constant for me as my life continues to change and shift for the ultimate betterment of it. I’m really happy that Salah and Virgil are still around, and Trent hopefully stays as well. Haven’t shut the door on that possibility yet. I miss Jurgen but Slot’s been nothing short of incredible this season. My only complaint is that he doesn’t trust the depth players enough, although we must admit the depth players haven’t given him much reason to trust them. I wonder if a possible Trent departure isn’t the start of Slot culling the squad and bringing in reinforcements more suited to how he wants to play moving forward. Virgil did tell reporters that there’s a big bucket of cash that could be spent this summer.
I was almost moved to tears watching the game yesterday after I got home from a little birthday date with my lady. Her name’s Kate, rather stunning to look at, shares similar values to me, she’s very communicative, kind and thoughtful. Studying neuroscience too, so she’s pretty smart. But I digress. That moment when the crowd sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” was nothing short of incredible. You all have been waiting 35 years for this. Winning the league in 2020 broke the curse but didn’t provide proper closure because of the pandemic. We were so happy to have won it that it didn’t seem to matter, but that does sting a bit. To be able to celebrate properly with the fans, with a proper parade, that’s nothing short of incredible. A once-in-a-lifetime moment. More incredible when you think this all came in Slot’s first year in charge, with a squad changed very little from Klopp’s final years. It makes me a bit giddy to think of what could happen once Slot properly puts his stamp on things and makes the squad his own.
As much as life stops for no one, it feels like now is a time to celebrate, step back a bit and enjoy life. Starting a relationship with someone, moving on through college, enjoying time with friends old and new. All while still caring for everyone in my broken but loving family. It’s time also for us Liverpool fans to celebrate. We’ve conquered our demons and we’ve been rewarded for it. Bus top parade with Klopp hopefully hanging off the back even more drunk than when he won the Champions League. I can’t wait.
