Rinse & repeat

I’ll keep this short because if you want to know how we played, you could basically just read any other post match article from this dismal season.

First half – the usual. Slow, boring possession for possession’s sake that we do absolutely nothing with, zero shots in target and concede from the first chance our opponents create.

Second half was better and for the first 20-25 minutes we were decent, which funnily enough, coincided with us actually pressing. Slot says nothing’s changed this season but I’m sorry it has and it’s our pressing – we’re just not doing it. I noticed Wirtz getting visibly frustrated with his teammates a number of times as he went to press the ball, only to turn around and realise nobody had gone with him. For a while I thought it was instruction from the manager that we weren’t pressing but seeing that from Wirtz, made me wonder if it’s more likely what many have been speculating for a while – at least half the lads have sacked it and just aren’t putting in the effort.

I really can’t be bothered analysing any more of the game, you all saw it and it’s just the same as it is every week. Create minimal chances, poor finishing with what we do create and shaky at the back. No recognisable identity, no obvious playing style or patterns of play, just aimlessly passing the ball around and hoping someone will do something special with it.

There’s clearly something wrong at the club, players are speaking out as Macca did this week and the effort and passion clearly isn’t there. Whether that’s a problem with the manager or higher up I don’t know but something needs to change before we start next season because we have too good a squad of players to be serving up this tripe twice a week. Walk on!
