What is happening at LFC?
Well that’s our unbeaten run over, after another error strewn display on the South coast saw us lose to a team with one win in their last fourteen, a team hovering above the relegation zone who haven’t beaten a top half team all season and who have even more injury problems than us. Doesn’t sound good does it?
To be honest, the unbeaten run was just papering over cracks anyway, as it was probably the least impressive unbeaten 13 games ever given that, with the odd exception, we’ve been poor even in the games we’ve won.
Now we have the situation where it looks like Robbo could be off to Spurs and if rumours are to be believed, he’s pushing for the move. Now this just seems bizarre to me. Sure he wants to play more but it’s not like he’s not playing at all and moving now will cost him a hefty signing on fee that he’d get for moving on a free in the summer. Not to mention Spurs are even more of a shit show than us and at this rate are headed towards a relegation scrap with a manager holding onto his job by his fingertips. To me it just further underlines that things are not good behind the scenes, although it must be frustrating for Robbo watching an inferior player start ahead of him every week.
Then we have Arne’s comments on it, that he needs all his players. He obviously doesn’t want the deal to go through and no wonder. Robbo’s our vice captain and probably the best leader in our team and even if we recall Tsimikas, it’s just further upheaval to an already fractured and dysfunctional back line.
The elephant in the room as well is that Salah’s back and we lose again, with Wirtz having his worst game since… well, the last time Salah played.
I’m currently struggling to keep the faith. Both with the manager, as well as the overall vision for the club. There seems to be some strange decisions going on upstairs just now, so not everything can be placed at Slot’s door.
What can be levelled at Slot though, is our complete lack of identity and playing style. We’re totally ineffective both as an attacking and defensive unit and I’d be amazed if anyone (apart from Alan 😉) still didn’t think anyone else could get a better tume out of this squad of players than Slot is.
Worrying times for LFC then and it’s difficult to see what is going to change to turn it around this season. It doesn’t look like we’re making any additions this January and are just going to limp our way to the end of the season and take stock then. Arne is likely feeling the heat and so he should be but there’s a lot of players in this team who should be feeling concerned right now if they want a future at this club and if they don’t, then get rid and bring in players who want to fight for the shirt because frankly, the passive way we’ve accepted these results this season has been shameful at times. I just hope the next time I write an article, isn’t when Robbo’s played his last game for the club. At the very least he deserves an Anfield send off. Walk on!
