What crisis? Oh… THAT crisis…

Another desperately disappointing result yesterday, as we somehow managed to squander a two goal lead to a very basic Leeds team but the game itself has been totally overshadowed by Salah’s explosive interview after the match, which I’m sure everyone will have read by now.

Confirmation then of what many of us suspected then – Slot’s lost the dressing room, or at least a section of it and unfortunately for him, that section would appear to be the senior players and leaders in there.

What now then? Many have been calling for Slot to go for a number of weeks and now many are calling for Salah to go, after his outburst yesterday. My take on it – and this might be controversial, but I think they should both go. Slot’s man management is shocking and I’m not in the least bit surprised to find he’s managed to divide what was previously (arguably) the most united dressing room in team sports. I really don’t see a way back for him now and think it would be best for all parties to cut the cord now, bring in Gerrard and Gary Mac until the end of the season if necessary and then start next season with a clean slate.

As for Salah, I don’t know why anybody’s surprised by his behaviour, as it’s absolutely in keeping with the way he’s always been. With Mo it’s always been ‘The Salah show’ first and the team second. He’s selfish and entitled and he’s always been like. You can accept it when he’s putting the kind of numbers on the board that he once was but when he stops doing that, he becomes a liability and is now throwing public tantrums about it. Three to five years ago, he had that kind of leverage but he doesn’t now. He wouldn’t have been getting another contract renewal anyway and with the players we now have – having spent 300 million on Wirtz, Isak and Ekitike, it’s becoming harder to see how Salah fits in this team, in the way he used to so successfully for us.

I do think this could’ve been avoided though. This squad of players is screaming out for a 4-4-2 and Salah could have played as one of the two, rotating with Isak and Ekitike. Slot just doing the same thing every week has not and is not working but he looks clueless how to solve it.

Ultimately, nobody is coming out of this looking good. The dressing room has clearly turned toxic, as has the relationship of a number of players with the manager. Personally I see no way back for either of them. Walk on!
