Two steps forward, one step back

I’ll keep this brief as I’ve been on call this week and only saw highlights but from what I saw it looked as dismal as most of the rest of this season has been.

Terrible defending for their opener, weak from Virgil and what on earth was Konate doing? Toothless as usual at the other end, with Gakpo even literally clearing a goalbound effort from Jones off the line in one of the more bizarre incidents we’ve seen this season.

When we did finally score, it was all of Wolves making, not ours. A misplaced pass found its way to Salah and then some terrible goalkeeping from the Wolves keeper allowed Salah to claim his first PL goal since November. It wasn’t enough to salvage a point though, as once again we capitulated at the last and although there was an element of misfortune for us around their winner, it’s just more of the same in this god awful season.

I’ve been saying for months now that I refuse to accept another manager couldn’t be getting more out of this group of players. They look unfit, they don’t look coached and they look anything but motivated and while the players have to take some responsibility, the buck ultimately stops with the manager. He’s not been able to find the answers to any of our issues this season, it’s just the same dross week in, week out and in my opinion, it doesn’t look like the players are playing for him. I don’t see much point in changing the manager now, although if we lose to
Wolves again on Friday, I may change my mind. It’s surely time for some fresh ideas this summer though, as Slot looks totally out his depth at the moment.

Not a great time to be an LFC fan then and it’s difficult to find reasons to be optimistic at the moment. All I can think of is that Wirtz should be back soon. Anyway, onto Friday with more than a little trepidation. Walk on!
