Lord of the Flies

I will admit to a bit of previous bias before launching into this one. I have struggled a bit to really warm to Slot, especially coming after Klopp which is a bit unfair as he was a pretty hard act to follow, I accept that Slot is a very, very good manager though and we have been very lucky to have him. So, am I being too picky when I worry about his habit of throwing certain players like Quansah and now Frimpong under the bus in a way Klopp just never would?

I am a bad loser just as Klopp was and I am sure Slot is too the only difference is they don’t lose as often as me. But I think if you are going to be a bad loser then you blame the opposition, the pitch, even the weather and especially the referee by calling into question his honesty, his eyesight, his mental capacity and especially his parentage What you don’t do is turn your anger inwards and start calling out your own players especially those who are in a weaker position than others and not yet fully fledged members of the team.

Taking the latest example with Frimpong. I am not the only one to point out that Kerkez kicked the ball out near the penalty area then two of our players helped the ball on before Frimpong played the final part in presenting them with the winning goal. I might buy the “oh well that’s just the dutch way of talking bluntly” argument if he did it also to some of the more senior players but he doesn’t and that for me is a sign of a bit of a bully. There I’ve said it. Someone in a position of great power selectively punching down on the weakest of those below him.

I must admit too I am probably more offended by this than I might otherwise have been, as I really am particularly unimpressed by my fellow man at the moment.
