Are We Losing the Plot Under Arne Slot?
Article by GDoc.

I’ve been a Liverpool fan since 1972, and I’ve never felt this frustrated watching our team. Arne Slot was brought in with a clear brief and the resources to build his version of Liverpool, yet week after week the selection, the tactics and crucially, the defending keep making the same mistakes. It’s not just bad luck. Something systematic is going wrong.
Tactics and selection….
Slot’s ideas don’t look bad on paper but the way they’re implemented rarely plays to our players’ strengths. Too often we see rigid positional instructions that inhibit creativity rather than free it. The press lacks intensity and coordination; transitions are slow; our attacking moves are predictable. Worse, Slot seems stubborn about certain selections and roles keeping players out of the positions they thrive in or persisting with systems that expose our defensive weaknesses. With the squad he requested and the money spent, we should be seeing fluid, complementary football instead of static patterns and confusion.
Defence and mentality…..
The defence has to take responsibility too. Individual errors, poor marking at set pieces and a lack of concentration at key moments have cost us points. But coaching can and must cure recurring mistakes. The team now looks tentative rather than imposing. We used to be known for turning up the heat and dominating games even against smaller sides; now we barely see the hunger. If the players are professionals and they are; they must be better prepared mentally and tactically.
Comparisons with Klopp…….
I’m not saying Klopp was perfect. He could be stubborn and stubbornness did lead to blind spots. But he gave us a style to enjoy; high-energy, committed, and often ruthless. Under him we fought for trophies with cohesion and belief. That connection, between manager, players and fans is what seems missing right now under Slot. Spending hundreds of millions means little if unity, identity and strategy aren’t clear.
Results speak…….
We’ve dropped points and lost mathes we should have won, against teams who, on paper, were inferior. That raises questions not just about the coach but about how the big-money signings are being integrated. Are they doing used in the right roles they were bought for? Are we getting value from the investment? If not, accountability is necessary.
What needs to happen :
•Urgent tactical reassessment: play to the squad’s strengths, simplify when needed, and stop forcing a model that doesn’t suit the personnel.
•Defensive coaching focus: fix set pieces, shape, and communication. These are coachable failings.
•Smarter rotation and clearer player roles: get the signings into positions where they can impact games.
•Psychological reset: players must show urgency and responsibility; leadership on and off the pitch must be visible.
•Transparency from the club: fans deserve honest assessments and a plan for turnaround……
….I’m not a pessimist. I love this club and want us back at the front, competing for the Premier League and Champions League. But being realistic, if things don’t change quickly, this season is at risk. We’ve backed Slot and the team with huge investment. It’s time for results and for football that excites again.
Let’s hope the players respond, the tactics improve, and we don’t end up embarrassed on the big occasions when we play Man Utd.
YNWA.
